A blog dedicated to teaching my kid (and myself...) about money management through entrepreneurship.
First off, thank you for taking the time to visit my site to read this blog. Time is the most precious commodity each of us has and I appreciate that you, Reader, have chosen to spend some of yours with me.
The idea for this project was born of a desire to do better for my kid than my parents did for me. The last few years have brought radical changes to my personal life that left me digging a little deeper into who I am and how I came to be the person I am, and in an attempt to bring myself into sharper focus, I asked myself a lot of questions. (Some I have figured out and others I am still in the process of trying to answer.) A significant one was, "what were some things that your parents, Lara, dropped the ball on that have left you trying to navigate life without a compass?" The answer is money. How to manage it, how to talk about it, and probably most importantly, how to feel about it.

Coming in on the tail end of Gen X, and raised by Baby Boomers, we talked about nothing. There were no discussions on sex, what a healthy relationship looks like, and feelings were something to be put aside, not expressed. Now, this isn't intended as a dig at my folks, I believe they were doing the best they could with the tools they had but looking at social media content regarding Gen X (and how we were left to their own devices) this laissez-faire attitude towards preparing kids for the future appears to have been cultural and not specific to my family. However, that is not good enough for me, and I don't want my kid to have to learn through trial and error without ANY guidance.
My Goals For This Project
My goals seem simple on the surface, but I suspect will not be once put into practice. I aim for the following:
Learn age-appropriate finance lessons to pass along to my kid
Continue to build our Etsy site (after-all there is a symbiotic relationship between the Etsy sales and the overarching goal of the project
Gain more confidence in my OWN money management skills and learn to tamp anxieties surrounding the topic
Share what I learn via this blog
Have fun and learn new things
How I Plan On Achieving My Goals
Research by reading books, articles and listening to relevant podcasts and/or videos (must be from reputable sources as there is a lot of bad advice)
Continually create new sticker designs to offer on our Etsy site
Writing regularly on this blog
Acknowledge that I am probably going to make mistakes in this journey, and that's ok
